Community Satisfaction Survey

Each year, Council conducts a Community Satisfaction Survey to assess Council’s performance across a range of measures and to seek insight into ways to provide improved or more effective service delivery.

In 2025 Council changed service providers and moved away from a telephone survey to an in-person approach of 400 residents. The results have been compared to 18 other metropolitan Councils including Cardinia, Frankston, Kingston, Bayside, Port Phillip and Mornington Peninsula.

Community Satisfaction Survey 2025

This year saw Greater Dandenong score highest of all participating Councils for overall satisfaction and also outperform the metropolitan average in a number of areas.

Average satisfaction with facilities and services was 8.1 which was 3% higher than the metropolitan average and 7% higher than the southeastern region. Our community told us they were particularly satisfied with community services, communication, planning and building, and recreation and culture. Waste services, libraries, services for children and older people, and family support services were highly valued with high satisfaction rates.

Our main area for improvement is safety which is a key priority in our new Council Plan 2025-29. In 2025-26 Council is committed to developing a new Community Safety Action Plan, delivering an annual Crime Prevention and Safety Forum, and reviewing our Local Laws to manage community safety and public amenity issues.
