During September, Greater Dandenong Council celebrates Biodiversity Month with a range of events and activities for the community to participate in.
Biodiversity Month aims to promote the importance of connecting with and caring for nature in all its diversity.
Biodiversity Blitz 2023
Each September, Greater Dandenong partners with several of our neighbouring councils to host the Biodiversity Blitz. The competition runs between all participating councils to see who can record the most species using the iNaturalist app.
Participating is easy, all you need is your smart phone or a camera and access to the iNaturalist app or website.
Join the City of Greater Dandenong Biodiversity Blitz project from the 1-30 September by simply heading outdoors to snap photos of living things in Greater Dandenong and then upload your finds to iNaturalist. You'll be contributing to community science and showing the world the brilliant biodiversity Greater Dandenong has to offer.

Alex Wilkie Nature Reserve Spring Thing
This Father's Day, bring the family along to celebrate the spring reopening of the Alex Wilkie Nature Reserve at our annual, free Spring Thing event.
Hear from Traditional Custodians about the importance of respect and connection to the land during a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, join our bushland crew to plant some seedlings, learn about local plants and how to create your own Garden for Wildlife or explore the past and present in our Visitor's Centre.
Have fun with nature play activities in the Sense Trail or take a tour of the reserve with one of our rangers.
There will be wildlife presentations by Blacksnake Productions, roving performers 'The Connies' and live music to enjoy.
