Boosting the Local Economy

Buy Local Business Grants were designed to encourage the growth of businesses by using services from another local business.

The grant program was open from November 2023 to May 2024.

There were a wide range of things businesses could use the grant for such as:

  • Accounting services: Advice on business planning and strategies (excluding GST or normal tax procedures).
  • Legal services: Advice on new processes or procedures to assist the business (excluding services related to legal disputes).
  • Marketing/social media services: Development of online marketing strategies or website design.
  • Business planning services: Development of a comprehensive business plan.
  • Human resources services: Staff training or recruitment services.
  • Safety, health, and wellbeing services: Ergonomic assessments, compliance with health and safety requirements, risk management plans, or employee assistance programs.
  • Cybersecurity Investment: Protection from online malicious activities.

A success story

Graham at Reliant Business Insurance, who serves a variety of commercial businesses, became aware of the grant through a Talking Business e-newsletter from Council.

He applied online with the idea of hiring a local videographer to create short videos to promote his business on social media.  The process was straightforward, and Graham appreciated the opportunity to collaborate with another local business. The new videos helped him market his business and contributed to an increase in business throughout May and June.

The Buy Local Business Grants have not only contributed to business growth but also fostered local collaboration, strengthening the Greater Dandenong community.
