Greater Dandenong Council has once again achieved a record performance rating as part of an annual customer satisfaction survey of residents.

Now in its 22nd year, the Local Government Community Satisfaction Survey assesses Council’s performance across a range of measures and in comparison to other metropolitan and state Councils.

Council achieved an overall performance score of 68, a record result for Greater Dandenong Council, one point higher than the metropolitan average.

This year Council scored highly in the area of customer service (74) which compares to the state-wide average of 70.

Greater Dandenong residents identified diversity as the best thing about this community, closely followed by parks and gardens, libraries, customer service, community support services and recreational and sporting facilities.

“It is pleasing to see such positive results, and importantly it is great to see our community satisfaction score improve across several areas.” Greater Dandenong Mayor Angela Long said.

In 2021 Council continued to have a tailored question included in the survey regarding perceptions of safety and for the first time asked residents their thoughts on the importance of addressing climate change.

“On this question 79 per cent of residents said they are concerned about climate change and 86 per cent said Council has an important role in responding to climate change,” Mayor Long said.

The survey results also found that:

  • Over the last 12 months, 60 per cent of residents believe the direction of Council’s overall performance has stayed the same, up one percentage point on the previous result
  • Residents scored community consultation a 60, compared to a state-wide average of 56, and a metropolitan average of 59
  • Overall Council direction scored 62, against a state-wide average of 53 points.
