Council is saddened by the passing of Elder Aunty Fay Carter OAM.

Aunty Fay is a respected elder of the Yorta Yorta - Dja Dja Wurrung clans.

Aunty Fay was a resident of the City of Greater Dandenong for over 40 years and contributed to both the local Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community.

Aunty Fay's expertise and experience were sought by State and Federal Governments and Victorian community organisations on a wide range of issues affecting the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.

Through her work, she encouraged members of the Aboriginal community to take pride in their heritage and re-connect with their cultural identity.

Greater Dandenong Mayor, Cr Lana Formoso said, "She was a highly respected leader, who worked with determination and passion for Aboriginal people."

“Her loss will be felt very deeply within our community."

Our flags will be flown at half-mast for the next week to acknowledge her passing.
