Dandenong Market

Dandenong Market – Parking Changes begin 4 July 2023

Dandenong Market

Council is making some improvements to parking at the Dandenong Market, to make it easier for customers, visitors and workers to park and shop.

All parking spaces for the public at the Dandenong Market have timed parking restrictions to ensure that as many people as possible can visit the market.

The market car parks can be accessed via King Street, Clow Street and Stuart Street in central Dandenong.

Some visitors also choose to park elsewhere in Dandenong and walk as the market car park can get very busy at times.

The following parking changes at the Dandenong Market will begin on Tuesday 4 July 2023:

2P Parking (Two-hour parking)

All parking areas will be changed to a two-hour “2P” parking limit which will apply from the hours of 10am to 6pm. This means customers can only park for two hours during these times.

This change is expected to increase turnover meaning that more customers are able to visit the market. Any customers that need longer to shop are encouraged to arrive earlier in the day before the restrictions commence.

Ticket Parking on Sundays

The Dandenong Market has become very busy on Sundays and the ticket parking will be extended to include Sundays so that turnover is encouraged, and more people are able to find a parking space.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When will the changes take place?
The changes to parking at the Dandenong Market will begin on Tuesday 4 July 2023.
  • What if I need to park for more than two hours?
The best option is for you to arrive before 10am which will allow you to park for more than two hours as long as you complete your shopping by midday. Parking for longer periods later in the day means the car park is full and spaces are not available for more customers. If you need to park for longer later in the day, you should park further from the market.
  • Why is a fee being introduced on Sundays?
Sundays have traditionally been a quieter day at the market, and the free parking was used as an incentive to encourage more trade on these days. The reason ticket fees are in place on other days is so that customers only stay as long as they need to, before leaving and making space for more customers. This is called “increased turnover”.
The market is now becoming very busy on a Sunday, and we are looking to increase turnover so that even more customers can visit.
  • Which car parks are affected by the changes?
All car parks will be affected with the new changes, including Sunday trading hours.
