Discovering our Street in Noble Park

Silent Disco people with hands in the air

Noble Park has an exciting new tool, designed to make exploring the area more enticing than ever.

On Sunday June 30, the community celebrated the launch of “Discover our street NPK” digital map, that showcases the best of Noble Park. The launch event featured a unique silent disco walking tour, inviting participants to immerse themselves in the vibrant offerings of the neighbourhood. This initiative aims to boost interest in Noble Park and highlight all it has to offer. The first stage of development has been an Art Trail – where you can see different art installations throughout the area and further stages will add stories and points of interest.

The City of Greater Dandenong collaborated with Mapivate to create a quirky, illustrated, and interactive map which showcases local stories in an engaging way. QR codes will be located around Noble Park, shop fronts and at points of interest, enabling people to access the map via a browser, either on a mobile or desktop.

The technology integrates Geographic Information Systems (GIS) into the site and then encourages visitors to interact with what is in the surrounding locations rather than just visiting. This way, when visiting the area, they can easily see where they are, along with highlights and adventures that can be enjoyed in the area. As there is no requirement to download an app, visitors can simply use the browser on their device to view the map, making the experience so much more streamlined.

Utilising illustrations from artist Sasha Heath, an interactive map has been created that highlights different locations throughout Noble Park. Visitors can select from different types of tours, such as finding art installations for their own walking art tour. Once Stages 2 and 3 have been completed, visitors can learn stories behind landmarks or discover hidden gems within Noble Park.  As the map is digital, updates and new options will be included regularly.

The benefits to the businesses will be increased foot traffic to areas that visitors may not have ventured before accessing the map. There is potential to increase activity within the Noble Park shopping district by attracting visitors to the Centre using the map. We encourage all local Noble Park businesses to accept the opportunity of displaying a decal to promote the app on their shop window.

Each quarter the map will be updated with further points of interest, to keep it usable and interesting. This is such an exciting opportunity for the Noble Park community to do their own tour of Noble Park and to share it with friends, relatives, and visitors to the region as a fun and different activity.  To see the map, please visit  Maptivate - Our Street NPK
