Our new Keysborough South Community Hub is on track to be an amazing five-star Green Star sustainable facility. The community told us the new Hub should have an innovative and environmentally sustainable design and we’re more than delivering on that brief. Achieving a five-star rating means net-zero emissions from the building’s operation so we have built sustainability into the fabric of the Hub’s overall design to help meet this quality standard.
Recent milestones include the installation of 260 solar panels to help power the Hub and fitting 60,000 litres of rainwater storage for re-use on-site. There is an enormous 100,000 litres of underground stormwater storage under the carpark which will help regulate drainage and run-off and protect the local environment.
Lush gardens and playgrounds with both new native and existing vegetation will contribute to the Hub’s sustainability, with plans for around 100 new trees to be planted in and around Tatterson Park where the Hub is located.
Green Star is an internationally recognised rating system that sets the standard for healthy, resilient, positive buildings like ours – you can read more about the rating system on the Green Star website.
Construction update
The Hub’s construction is proceeding well with practical completion expected in mid-2025. Council will then take over the site for final fit out, furnishing and training staff.
We are moving to six days’ construction on site from 7 December, with Saturday work times from 9am to 2pm (Monday to Friday times will remain 7am to 5pm).
Work will pause for the holiday period from 20 December 2024 until 14 January 2025. We will have appropriate security measures for the site throughout the closure period.
