The Collective Priority Action Group (PAG) meeting was devised to network; share progress, ideas, discuss synergies and talk about solutions. Community members with lived experience spoke about their journeys and participation in GameChange and other members outlined their project focus and plans so far.
Some of the projects the PAGs have shaped include:
- development of a community services activity board
- a support portal for jobseekers and residents
- short training sessions to enable links between employers and education providers
- research into a central employment hub
- support fairs, with a focus on women, youth, CALD, and mature aged jobseekers
- a map to help jobseekers navigate the employment system
- case studies from companies embracing innovative employment and staff retention
- workshops to support employers wanting to see things differently.
Many opportunities were recognised for collaboration across PAGs. Participants (including guests from other Councils and peak bodies), talked about things such as business and industry skills shortage at all levels within the system, other successful initiatives and systemic change.
This sharing of ideas will help to inform all stakeholders about what’s available in the local area for priority cohorts. The importance of collaboration cannot be understated, so many participants could see they were working similarly to others and had ideas and efficiencies to share.
With many PAG projects scheduled to start in the next few months, we will update you on their progress. The event was catered for by a local social enterprise - Asylum Seeker Resource Centre catering and media was supplied by Hussen Zamzame at the Australian Multicultural Media Centre (AMMC).
