Greater Dandenong City Council is seeking community feedback to help shape the design of the new aquatic and wellbeing centre in Dandenong that will replace the existing Dandenong Oasis at Mills Reserve.
This major infrastructure project is a key recommendation from the Greater Dandenong Aquatic Strategy and will have a targeted focus on allied health, passive activity, education, fitness and wellness.
Previous planning and consultation into the leisure facility identified the need for the new centre to focus on health and wellbeing, with the aim to get more people, more active, more often.
Following two rounds of consultation and over 1,500 community members surveyed in 2018-19, Council agreed that the new centre would include a 50m pool (with moveable boom), two warm water pools, learn to swim pool, leisure pool / water play, spa, sauna and steam room, gymnasium, program / group fitness rooms, allied health consulting suites, meeting rooms, creche, café and amenities.
Greater Dandenong City Council Mayor, Angela Long said the new centre will include both traditional aquatic and leisure facilities, plus a range of features designed to encourage less active people to enjoy the facility.
“The proposed inclusion of two warm water pools is one example of how the new centre will cater for a broad cross section of the community, including those seeking gentle exercise, rehabilitation / hydrotherapy, relaxation or just wanting to socialise with friends,” Cr Long said.
Council is now seeking further community input to help design these facilities and spaces, to make the new centre welcoming and accessible to people of all ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds. Have your say here.
Community feedback will be accepted until Sunday 15 August.
