NAIDOC Week Celebrations at Dandenong Market

A man stands behind a lectern as smoke creates and almost white background behind him.

Held across the country from 7-14 July 2024, NAIDOC Week celebrates and recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Greater Dandenong City Council has partnered with the Bunurong Land Council and Dandenong Market to hold a NAIDOC Week celebration on Sunday 7 July, from 10am-2pm.

The 2024 Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud event references the theme of this year’s week, and is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity and calls for a commitment to justice and equality. It invites all Australians to listen, learn and engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering a society where the cultural wisdom and contributions are fully valued and respected.

The Bunurong Land Council will host a Welcome to Country and Traditional Smoking Ceremony, while the Koorie Youth Will Shake Spears traditional dance group will perform. Cultural activities will include basket weaving and wood burning.

This event is free and inclusive. Find out more here.
