New Art Gallery Naming

Greater Dandenong City Council has endorsed in principle a name for the city’s new contemporary art gallery at the site of the old Masonic Hall in Mason Street, Dandenong.

The building is currently being redeveloped into an exciting contemporary art gallery for the region and Council is proposing to name the gallery ‘Dandenong New Art’ which in turn could colloquially be known as ‘DNA’.

Council’s new gallery in central Dandenong will deliver museum standard exhibition spaces, a large contemporary extension spanning two floors, office space for onsite staff, a surrounding terrace, and space for a possible future café or small retail offer.

The architectural landmark has been redesigned to welcome and draw the community in and make contemporary art as accessible as possible, lifting the prominence of art in Greater Dandenong.

Council is committed to engagement and consultation during the redevelopment and naming of the new gallery.
