Playing it Safe these Holidays

Children swimming in a pool

With school holidays underway Greater Dandenong City Council is encouraging families to explore activities, enjoy meaningful experiences together and feel comfortable in Greater Dandenong’s places and spaces.

Our School Holiday Program includes art workshops, gaming tournaments, and outings like the Bonbeach Day Trip.

There are lots of low-fee activities that parents and kids can enjoy together, such as a swim at the Noble Park Aquatic Centre (NPAC). When it’s forecast to be over 26 degrees, NPAC’s Water Splash area for 3- to 12-year-olds is open and when it’s forecast to be over 28 degrees, the waterslide is open (for those over five and over 120cm).

Greater Dandenong’s parks and open spaces, such as Noble Park Skate Park, the Ninja Course at Burden Park and Tirhatuan Park come with playgrounds, picnic spots and barbeques. These are all free and perfect for a day out.

“Our programs, facilities and playgrounds create the perfect environment for children of all ages to have fun safely with their families and friends,” said Cr Jim Memeti, Mayor of Greater Dandenong City Council.

“We have all kinds of playgrounds, big and small through Greater Dandenong. So, bring a picnic, hat and sunscreen and remember to put your litter in a bin or take it with you,” he said.

“If you have older kids who are independent, still remember to arrange scheduled places and preorganised times for pick up after activities or stay in touch. Make sure they know how to reach their parents or a trusted adult if they need help,” Cr Memeti said.

To ensure our neighbourhoods and activity centres are places that people feel confident and safe in, Greater Dandenong City Council is consulting the community to help inform the new Community Safety Action Plan.

“This holiday season let’s stay connected and make sure our young people have a blast and stay safe,” Cr Memeti said.
