Soil Stockpile at 576 Frankston Dandenong Road, Bangholme

Dandenong Civic Centre

EPA Victoria and the Greater Dandenong City Council are aware of issues with a soil stockpile at 576 Frankston Dandenong Road, Bangholme, and maintaining scrutiny of the site.

EPA sampling and testing has shown low-level soil contamination in an isolated area of the stockpile. The stockpile under investigation has been cordoned off. EPA’s public health experts do not consider there is a risk to public health.

EPA is satisfied that other soil being delivered to the site since the investigation began is not from the same source as the stockpile that is under investigation.
The site operator continues to comply with an EPA regulatory notice, and EPA’s investigation is ongoing.

In the meantime, Greater Dandenong City Council is regulating the site through a planning permit for earthworks, and the property owner has acknowledged and followed directions from Council’s planning compliance officer to date.

The planning permit for earthworks has specific requirements for the finished levels and soil types being introduced on the land. The permit also has mechanisms to ensure audits are undertaken at the site, and Council will enforce the conditions of the permit accordingly.
