Did you know Springvale Community Hub (SCH) has an Advisory Committee made up of local community members?
Meet Vinh, a member of the SCH Advisory Committee.
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am a Public Accountant and have a career in the financial industry as a Management Accountant and Business Economist.
I am currently volunteering as a Regional Advisory Council Member for the Victorian Multicultural Commission. I also volunteer as an Event and Fundraising Committee Member for the Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation (Chisholm Institute).
What motivated you to join the SCH Advisory Committee?
I have volunteered with a number of community ethnic groups as a Treasurer for the Springvale Asian Business Association and the Prahran and Fitzroy Seniors Citizen Association. I have volunteered as a Board Director and Treasurer for the Wantirna Community Bank (part of the Bendigo Bank). I believe my experience with these groups can assist the SCH Advisory Committee.
What do you think is the role of the SCH in the community?
I believe the role of the SCH Advisory Committee is to give feedback and suggestions to Council about our local resident's needs, as well as how, what and where the Council can serve the local community more efficiently.
I notice a lot of residents don't visit the library throughout their time living in Springvale. I encourage them to visit and enjoy the positive environment and relaxing atmosphere. You can do more than read or study here, there are many different activities held in the Hub.
What advice would you give to someone looking to get involved with the community?
I encourage everyone to spend time at the SCH and interact with other community members. I enjoy coming to the SCH and often spend the whole day here when I am off work. I have made a lot of friends from spending time here by exchanging knowledge and ideas. A few of my community friends like to joke that the SCH is my second home (except I can't stay overnight).
