The workshop is designed to encourage participants to enjoy the process of drawing to create works using a confidently drawn line. It will involve a range of drawing activities including warm-up exercises to provide inspiration for creating decisive confident marks.
The workshop will be in the format of a series of ‘quick still life’ drawings. Michelle and Angharad will set up an arrangement of objects on a table and, using black markers or pencil, ask the class to draw the arrangement for the duration of a song. Mark-making decisions will have to be made quickly and, ideally, will result in freer and more intuitive drawings. When the song stops, participants will be encouraged to create a different still life composition to draw. At the end of a few still life drawings the class can then select their favourite to re-work into a more ‘completed’ piece of work.
Participants will leave the workshop heartened to draw with a confident line and to see their everyday life as subject matter. They will have experienced what can be achieved with basic and easily accessible mediums and may potentially have been introduced to a new and pleasurable process for drawing.
