Join us at the Drum for the official opening of 9 by 5.
Celebrating its 17th year in 2025, 9 by 5 commemorates the original exhibition held in Melbourne in 1889. This featured artists Tom Roberts, Charles Conder, Arthur Streeton and Frederick McCubbin who produced uniform artwork on nine by five-inch cigar box lids.
Arts in Greater Dandenong’s adaptation has now become a nationally recognised exhibition that celebrates diversity within the arts community, proving that small things can have a big impact.
Artists at all stages of their career will showcase their inspiring creations with us, with prizes up for grabs. All works measure 9 x 5 inches (22.86cm x 12.7cm) and will be for sale.
The following prizes will be awarded:
- Best in Show: Artwork of high artistic merit as assessed by the judging panel.
- Community Connections: Artwork reflecting the Greater Dandenong community.
- Highly Commended: Notable mention of artwork of high artistic merit.
- People’s Choice: People's choice voting will be open for most of the exhibition and winner will be announced during the week of Monday 5 May – Friday 9 May 2025.
The opening event will be held in the Drum Theatre Foyer.
