Wetlands are the feeding grounds for a range of animals.
Wetlands are very important features in our local parklands. They are a natural way to control flooding and drainage while removing pollution from the stormwater so cleaner water runs into our creeks and out to the bay.
They are also very important to biodiversity – providing habitat to water birds and birds in general, reptiles, mammals, frogs and the many aquatic and terrestrial macro-invertebrates. They are one of our most diverse habitats in the municipality and a great place to visit for bird watching, exploration and discovery.
This project is about installing educational signs along Lakeview Boulevard and Hidden Grove Reserve that addresses the habit of feeding bread to ducks.
Beside being very unhealthy for the wetland birds, bread attracts other pest species such as rats and pollutes the water.
Council will also be undertaking bank erosion works at Lakeview Boulevard.
This project is funded by the Federal Government through the Communities Environment Program Grants and the City of Greater Dandenong.
