This project aims to highlight local reserves that have significant cultural, social and environmental value within the City of Greater Dandenong’s industrial areas.
Monash Reserve is one of the only public reserves within the local industrial area and connects to Frank Pellicano Reserve which is the largest remaining red gum woodland reserve in the Gippsland Bioregion.
Very large old trees at Monash Reserve provide much needed habitat for Microbat populations, including the Gould's Wattled Bat. Microbats are important insect eaters, hunting and devouring mosquitoes and other small insects on warm nights.
The planting of indigenous plants will also increase biodiversity; attracting native bees, bird and butterflies, extending the vegetation corridor to Frank Pelecano Reserve in support of the remnant red gum populations.
Frank Pellicano Reserve is located on 43-67 National Drive and Monash Reserve is across the railway tracks on 89-92 Monash Drive in Dandenong South.
This project is funded by the Federal Government through the Communities Environment Program Grants and the City of Greater Dandenong.
