Greater Dandenong Sustainability Festival

The annual Sustainability Festival will be held at the Dandenong Market on Sunday 23 February, 10am-3pm.

The festival is a wonderful celebration of all the ways we can get involved to protect our planet.

This is a free, family friendly event with activities, give aways and experts ready to answer your questions about how to live more sustainably.

Come along to learn more about:

  • Native animals and how our gardens at home can act as habitat
  • Growing your own food with little space or budget
  • DIY natural beaty and skin care
  • How to recycle right and reduce your waste
  • Environmental volunteer opportunities, local businesses making a difference and much more.

  • Op Shop Trail from 10 January - 10 February, detailed further down on this webpage
  • Roving Refills visits Greater Dandenong. Natural shampoos, soaps, detergents and cleaning products refilled from bottles saved from landfill. Saturday 8 February, Springvale Community Hub, 1-3pm 
  • Sustainable crafts like basket weaving, clothes swap, urban harvest exchange. Saturday 8 February, Springvale Community Hub, 1-3pm
  • Rethink Recycling, open day tour with activities to turn plastic lids into fun and functional items. Saturday 8 February, 38 Aspen Circuit, Springvale, 11am-2pm
  • Make body scrubs and bath salts with Mademoiselle Organic. Thursday 20 February, Dandenong Library, 6.30pm-8pm

Op Shop Trail 2025

The City of Greater Dandenong' s first Op Shop Trail has officially started.

From 10 January-10 February, get to know your local area and community while learning how to reduce your textile waste. This event is free to participate in. All you have to do is visit a minimum of three stores to enter the prize pool. You will not be required to purchase from these shops.

What do you need to do?

  • Collect a competition form from any participating Op Shop
  • Collect one stamp from each store
  • Visit as many stores as you can during the competition time   
  • Submit your competition form.

How to submit your competition form:

In person: visit the Sustainability Festival and drop it off at the colourful 'Go Green' electric van on Sunday 23 February at the Dandenong Market

Via email: sustainability@cgd.vic.gov.au by Saturday 15 February.

The more stores you visit, the bigger the prize pool voucher amount. For example, visit 3-5 stores to enter the $10 prize pool. Visit all 12 to win a prize and enter the $50 prize pool. Multiple vouchers up for grabs.

Past Sustainability Festivals

2022 Sustainability Festival

The City of Greater Dandenong's Sustainability Festival was held on Saturday 9 April 2022 at Springvale Community Hub, our 6 Star Green Star certified building. 

Workshops throughout the day focused on small, simple changes that people can make in their everyday lives that collectively make a big difference for our environment. The stalls and activities covered a wide range of sustainability themes to give everyone the opportunity to connect with an initiative that interested them.

The community went home with reusable bags full of sustainable products from our 20 stallholders and inspiring tips to be more sustainable at home, at school and in the workplace.

Attendees were kept fed by delicious vegan food. From Mie Goreng, to burgers and soft serve ice cream, everything was a hit.
