'Greening Our City' Initiative
Greater Dandenong City Council is undertaking a new 'greening our city' initiative through the creation of a new pocket park at 77 Herbert Street, Dandenong, implementing a new tree-lined 'green spine' from Dandenong High School along Herbert Street to Robert Booth Reserve with a major tree-planting program and introducing new landscaping to upgrade the Herbert Street Neighbourhood Shopping Centre. The project will include the planting of approximately 230 new trees and landscaping to improve the comfort for residents walking to and from community facilities and increasing the provision of shade to help reduce the effects of climate change.
This project is supported through funding from the Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning (DELWP) and the Local Parks Program. The Local Parks Program vision is to create new parks and revitalise and green our suburbs. Council has received funding of $550,000 (excluding GST) to undertake this strategic 'greening our city project' in Dandenong. Herbert Street provides an important on-road cycle route and pedestrian connection that links Dandenong High School to Robert Booth Reserve. This important street connection for the residents and community will significantly benefit from having a new landscaped pocket park and a newly landscaped and enhanced street.
The three parts of this project are:
77 Herbert Street, Dandenong - New Pocket Park
