Project overview
High traffic speeds and traffic volumes have been recorded on Sunnyvale Crescent in Keysborough. Higher volumes have used the street since the closure of Stanley Road and construction of the Dandenong Bypass around 10 years ago. Sunnyvale Crescent currently has no traffic management devices. This lack of devices has contributed to excessive vehicle speeds and rat-running.
In order to improve road safety and reduce rat-running along Sunnyvale Crescent, Council is proposing to install the following:
- Raised Intersection at intersection of Sunnyvale Crescent and Greenleaf Court.
- Raised Safety Platform along Sunnyvale Crescent outside Rowley Allan Reserve Playground (includes pedestrian crossing ramps).
- Alignment islands at intersection of Sunnyvale Crescent and East Court.
This project is funded by Councils Local Area Traffic Management Program, which provides funding to the locations within the municipality where the greatest road safety risks have been identified.
The installation of Raised Safety Platforms (and supporting infrastructure) will reduce vehicle speeds and rat-running, resulting in improved safety for all road users.
When will construction occur?
Construction is anticipated to commence in October 2023.
How is this project being funded?
The project is being fully funded by Council through the Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) Program, which prioritises roads for treatment based on numerous factors. For more information on Councils LATM Program, please visit: https://www.greaterdandenong.vic.gov.au/parking-roads-and-transport/road-safety.
Where will the treatments be installed?
Treatments are proposed:
- At intersection of Sunnyvale Crescent and East Court
- At intersection of Sunnyvale Crescent and Greenleaf Court
- Near house number 20 on Sunnyvale Crescent, Keysborough
How are the locations for the platforms chosen?
The location of treatments have been chosen based on their effectiveness to reduce vehicle speeds where risk is at its highest. This includes areas along the frontage of Rowley Allan Reserve where high volumes of pedestrian movements are expected, and at intersections where potential for vehicle conflict is greatest. The location of treatments also take into consideration the location of nearby drainage, available space between driveways, vegetation and lighting.
