Project overview
High traffic speeds and volumes have been recorded on Templewood Avenue. There have also been a number of accidents in this area in recent years. Traffic volumes and speeds on Templewood Avenue increased following the installation of traffic calming devices on other streets in the area, including Eagle Drive and Silverton Drive.
The installation of Raised Safety Platforms is proposed to reduce vehicle speeds and rat running, resulting in improved safety for all road users. As the proposed treatments on Templewood Ave may result in increased traffic on Frognal Drive, a treatment is also proposed on this street.
In order to improve road safety and reduce rat-running along Templewood Avenue and Frognal Drive, Council is proposing to install the following:
- Raised Intersection at intersection of Templewood Avenue and Hornsea Court.
- Raised Intersection at intersection of Templewood Avenue and Frognal Drive.
- Raised Intersection at intersection of Frognal Drive and Hope Court.
When will construction occur?
Construction is anticipated to commence in October 2023.
How is this project being funded?
The project is being fully funded by Council through the Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) Program, which prioritises roads for treatment based on numerous factors. For more information visit Council's LATM Program website.
Where will the treatments be installed?
Treatments are proposed:
- At intersection of Templewood Avenue and Hornsea Court.
- At intersection of Templewood Avenue and Frognal Drive.
- At intersection of Frognal Drive and Hope Court.
How are the locations for the platforms chosen?
The location of treatments have been chosen based on their effectiveness to reduce vehicle speeds where risk is at its highest. The location of treatments also take into consideration the location of nearby drainage, available space between driveways, vegetation and lighting.
